A couple pieces of info we have received for those interested in engaging in this capacity:1) do not use # black lives matter as that buries the messages associated with that hashtag.2) If, like me [Fidgit] you did include # BLM or black lives matter in your post then you need to delete it and repost rather than just edit it. Something to do with the algorithms?Any more info to be proliferating on this component of the efforts afoot?

My definition of mother’s love was loosened by necessity and divinity. By a history of many mothers and motherless daughters. I happen to have gotten lucky, in that I do have a mom who loves me like whoa. Also a healthy circle of advisors, aunts, friends, surrogates. Along the Her Odyssey journey we have amassed quite a number of moms-for-a-day. ... Thus is my Constellation of Mothers.They oversee my path, protect, guide, love, and laugh with me as I birth each step in this journey, painfully and imperfectly.I knew they would be with me, as they always have been. What I did not anticipate, was the legion of earthly mothers who awaited us in South America. Literally from the first days starting from the Beagle Channel, mothers were there.They love as mothers do: with protection, tenderness…and feeding us. Mending our clothes, giving us places to sleep and assuring safe passage but only after we ate something. Insisting that we call them once we arrived safely to the next town. You know, mom stuff. ... They take us into their hearts, giving us their confidence and blessings. The blessings are very literal; a “stop what you are doing, hands laid upon you and earnest words spoken to the heavens”, type ordeal.They give directions, then walk with us to make sure we find the way.They hug me to their bosom when I weep because it is all too much and I am tired and weak and scared.They hug me to their bosom when it is all too much and I overflow with their love and faith and kindness.Excerpts from “A Walk of a Thousand Mothers” blog post (link in bio). “F***, I didn’t commit!” was the first thing

“F***, I didn’t commit!” was the first thing that went through my mind as my bike’s front tire hit the curb at a bad angle/the wrong speed. I flew over the handlebars and slid across the pavement. My first thought was closely followed by my second: ”I hope no cars are coming”.As I skidded to a stop in the center of the highway, I simultaneously looked up to see if any vehicles were barreling down on me and assessed my injuries. No vehicles coming my way, and I felt only scrapes on my elbow and legs.After that, adrenaline took over. I jumped up and ran to the side of the road, barely taking time to grab my bike along the way. With my bike and -more importantly- my body out of harms way, I stood with my hands on my knees trying to catch my breath. How had I made such an avoidable mistake?.My mind had been distracted since I first heard of COVID-19. After we spoke with our Medical Advisor in Zacatecas, my brain power was even more divided- worried about loved ones all over the world, about others’ loved ones, about being an unknowing carrier, about Fidgit and I’s safety as we continued our bike trip. The more I worried, the more distracted my mind became. My anxiety had begun spiraling, and it was hard to concentrate, which led to misjudgement and me in the middle of a highway.I thought, as I do many times my anxiety is high, “What do I have control over?”.Some nearby men stared openly as I took inventory of the situation: Fidgit out of sight ahead of me, I’m scraped and shaken up but able to pedal, my bike’s shifters have shifted/cracked from hitting the asphalt but they still function. I took some deep breaths, drank some water, rolled up my sleeves, fixed my shifters as much as I could, and pedaled on to find Fidgit.As I pedaled away one of the staring men yelled, in english, “ Have a good trip!” On auto-pilot, I responded “Thank you!” A moment passed and I smiled about what he may have witnessed of my ‘trip’.I quickly caught up to a worried Fidgit, who had turned around to check on me. How we cling to our our schedules and measures. Deadlines. Productivity! Expectations and markers of success.🔹We rank fetuses and babies in percentiles of growth. We grade our students. We set quarterly goals for our businesses. We schedule our thru-hikes down to the daily mileage and town stop. These measuring sticks give us context and context is comforting.🔹And right now, as individuals and as a species, we don’t have that structure. It is unsettling!🔹Reason number 10,111 that I love being on Her Odyssey is how utterly, repeatedly, and even, dare I say, regularly, it obliterates our schedules and expectations.🔹I am looking over planning spreadsheets and routes I made in 2013. I scheduled the journey and plotted the route so as to maximize on the changing seasons along the curvature of the earth such that we should never have to stop for more than a few weeks.🔹But the climate is changing, relationships and lives are moving, and we get tired and need rest. And one thing doesn’t go as planned which sets off this chain...🔹Even before we began hiking the lesson of changing plans began. I tore my ACL which delayed beginning a year. Then, right before we started, I sprained my ankle. Then, when we finally were ready to start, we couldn’t afford to cross borders like I had planned and relationships in Patagonia just take longer. They even have a saying down there, “Quien se apura en la Patagonia pierde el tiempo.”🔹One night I told Neon I wanted to do 50 km the next day. But mid morning I met a lady who made cheese and two hours of chatting later...🔹Miles later, we discussed frustrations arising from different perceptions of goal setting and found our way to meeting in the middle. We did this over a multi-hour lunch break check-in, which happen often.🔹Because, more than any measuring stick of achievement what makes this odyssey worth it is showing up, in the present moment, for relationship; with myself, my partner, my community, and anyone willing to give the time of day.🔹More than anything I hope this global lockdown will teach us to show up for one another because, as Ram Dass said, “we are all just walking each other home.”
